patient deaths yearly
According to the Journal of the American Medical Association (Vol 284 July 26, 2000) there are about 250,000 U.S. patient deaths
yearly due to adverse effects of their treatment.

In the U.K - Almost 70,000 patients a year die partly as a result of "adverse events" they suffer during hospital
stays. One in ten of all patients admitted to hospital is harmed by complications, half caused by medical mistakes of some kind.
